Permissions

Permission Challenge

This has to be the biggest challenge for newcomers and it important to be clear on the subject.

Apart from beach's & Crown foreshore, there is no where in the UK you can detect without permissions being sort and approved. Ignoring this fact can land you in some trouble or if not a judge, so get permission.

Write a Letter

One method is to introduce yourself via a letter. This can be effective but is by no means the preferred route for me. I always look for a referral or introduction from an acquaintance as this is best means of gaining interest and initial trust.

Trust is the key to a permission as you are being granted access to someone's property.

What about common land I hear cry. Well in almost all cases forget it. Common land is governed by County Council's and you will not be allowed. But if you do feel strong enough, write a letter to your local counselor asking where is your detecting provision in your area.
